I recently had a coaching session where my coachee shared with me that they are starting to use techniques with their directs like reframing and open-ended questions. And better yet, they’re working.
What music to my ears!
They went on to say that they are seeing the value of acting as a coaching leader with their team members and appreciate how it’s reshaping how they approach leadership.
To be clear, it was not one of our objectives for my client to become a coaching leader. It just happened as a knock-on effect.
To me this is a clear sign of the impact of coaching when it ripples out from your coachee to others. Moreover, when your coachee believes in what you are doing and feels confident doing the same, that’s amazing.
Taking it a step further, then others within that organization feel the power of coaching and that may accelerate the adoption of coaching there and start weaving it into the culture.
Something to ponder as you coach and find success is to spend a small portion of your time with your coachee talking about the techniques you are employing to help them see how the magic is done. Then, encourage them to try one of these techniques with their reports or peers to have a totally different type of conversation. You may be pleased to see what happens after that.
